If I have trouble sleeping, my doctor might have me do a sleep study.
A sleep study helps doctors understand the way I sleep. They will make sure I can be as healthy as possible!
The night before a sleep study, it is important to get a normal night’s sleep.
A nurse will help the doctor get me ready for the sleep study.
I will go to a room with a big bed just for me! I will sleep in this bed for a night.
The nurses will put wires on my head. They will use tape and glue to keep them in place. This will not hurt.
A small piece of plastic may be put in my nose. Small tubes might sit behind my ear. This will not hurt.
Two belts will be put on my chest and belly so the doctors can see how I breathe. These belts will not hurt.
Once all the wires are attached in the right way, I can go to sleep like normal.
A family member can stay with me in my room during the night. This will help make me more comfortable.
If I need to use the bathroom, the nurse will unplug the wires. They will reconnect them when I am done.
When I wake up in the morning, the nurse will remove the wires, belts, and nose piece. Then I can go home!
